俳句: 拈華微笑

散る星も

微笑まずには

いられない。

Loose translation:

Even falling stars, too, can’t help but smile.

Written January 18, 2019.

Parameters: haiku

Commentary: As we grow up, we start to understand the detrimental impacts of idealization. Family, friends, and significant others are things in particular that we tend to idealize despite the tenuous nature of relationships. The stars, too – an image I and other people who write use with positive implications attached – have their drawbacks. But perhaps there is a reason that they still glow and shine when they fall.
