詩歌: 道徳

暗い道

無邪気な声で

鼻歌を

歌ってた君に

目を覚まされた。

Loose translation:

On a dark street, sleeping eyes were made to open by your innocent humming.

Written January 2, 2019.

Parameters: Tawara Machi inspired tanka, Japanese-only, no dictionaries allowed.

Commentary: This poem is about wandering the streets of a city with a friend of whom I’m very fond of but towards whom I right now have ambivalent feelings because of complicated circumstances. Charming and seemingly glowing with positivity, she is the type of person to walk down the street singing. But at the same time, she might burst forth with light and positivity at inconvenient times – such as in the pitch-black dark when people wish to sleep. She might be unaware of this.
